I am the owner/operator of Allegiant Care and Support.
I began working as a support worker in 2020 after finishing study.
I was first employed at a disability day centre where I worked with groups of participants who required varying levels of support. I found this to be an exciting role as it challenged me to use and futher develop many of my skills, allowing me to organise programs based around each participants needs and goals. It was rewarding watching the participants becoming more confident and happy as they acheived each of their own goals.
After a while I felt I wanted to make more of a difference working one on one with participants, so I moved on to become employed at a business that specialised in one on one support. I thought this is the type of support where i can make the biggest impact and difference to participants lives. The challenges I found working for someone else's business is that I felt I couldn't get decisions approved quickly enough to get results for the participants I was working with. So this is how Allegiant Care and Support came to be.
Since begining my own business I have found that I can offer a far better support service to my participants. I think sometimes bigger business' can lose sight of the most important person... the participant. It has always been in my nature to want to help people, even before becoming a support worker. I have many years of life experience and wisdom which I feel is more useful than that which I have learned in formal education. I am an active listener and enjoy hearing participants stories. It gives me a better understanding of how best I can offer support.
